Basket weaving is a creative, social and meditative process. As any maker will tell you, being mindful throughout the creative process is just as important as the product itself. Basket weaving is no different. Putting down the phone, turning off the screens and stepping away from the demands and rush of every day life to simply sit, weave, connect with others and be present is an invaluable and incredibly enjoyable way to incorporate mindfulness and creativity into your life.

Wild Fibres workshops combines traditional coil weaving practices with modern materials. People of all skill sets are welcome including those with no basketry skills at all, as well as those with existing skills wanting to learn to work with new fibres or find out some new tips and techniques.

As well as much individual support, each person receives their own basketry pack which includes a chenille needle, fibres directory and step-by-step guide to coil weaving. You will also walk away with the skills to weave any form you desire be it a basket, jewelry, a wall hanging or sculptural piece.

MIXED FIBRES BASKETRY WORKSHOP

This workshop is for anyone interested in learning basketry skills, whether you are new to basket weaving or have some prior experience. In this workshop you’ll learn how to coil weave using a combination of new, found and recycled materials such as Madagascan raffia, hemp string, Japanese cotton gima, wool, embroidery cotton, rope and textiles.

In addition to learning how to navigate a range of different and challenging fibres, you will also learn the skills to start a basket, create the base, understand how to make different types of woven forms and of course learn how to finish your piece. You'll also learn two types of stitches that provide you with different aesthetic options.
